Cadastral territorial division

When land surveying, mapping and land registration services were introduced to Uganda during colonial times, the existing administrative county boundaries then were used as territorial boundaries for cadastral surveying and mapping in the country and have since been used in titling and surveying.

The NLIS implements and restricts all registration and cadastral operations to the use of these historical boundaries. In order to differentiate between historical counties and current existing counties, the term cadastral counties is used.

Therefore, the public and professionals working in the land sector should clearly be aware of the difference between cadastral counties and the counties used in the administrative territorial divisions of Uganda.

For all works and applications to be submitted at the MZOs and to be handled by the NLIS, the cadastral counties are to be used as the basis for surveying, mapping and registration functions in the country.

In the following link you will be able to download a digital map showing the division of Uganda by cadastral counties. The format of this map is a shape file and among the attributes of the cadastral countries you will also find the MZO that handles all registration and cadastral operations for that cadastral county. Download the file as ZIP file, extract it and then open it with a specific tool such as QGIS
